I was reading a lot about Greenland lately as I thought about taking a trip over there for hiking or so.
I learned quite some interesting things.
It has a population of 56.000.
It's Danish.
Though, I bought an App for learning danish.
It has a very high unemployment rate of around 30%.
It has a high school-dropout rate.
It has only one tiny university (150 students) in Nuuk which is also the capital of Greenland with around 16.000 citizens.
There are no road connections between villages. The only roads exist inside the villages and "cities".
Greenland citizens have a very high rate of alcoholism and a high crime rate due to this problem, expecially in rape (and a very high rate in sexual abuse of children and teens)
Therefore it has a high rate of teen-pregnancies and suicide.
Greenland is in need of skilled employees. They hire everyone who has some kind of higher education. Therefore the chances to get a job in senior management with not that much experience is very good. The only special requirement is speaking Danish.
Average temperatures in "summers" are 9°C (48°F)
The West Coast is the most populated area.
There are high speculations about mining and oil production.
The biggest mammals are the polarbear and the musk ox. The also have polar foxes and rabbits, no rats. In summertime there are billions of insects.
Greenland has nearly no higher vegetations like bushes and trees. Those only grow very rarely in very sheltered fjords.
Economy is based mostly on fishery and tourism.
Yesterday, I rearranged my bedroom. Repositioned the shelfs for my clothing and the bed. I washed all of my bedroom-rugs (6) and repainted the floor.
I bought some plastic containers for my wool at IKEA. I plan on tidying up the east part of my apartment that I finally could use it as my hobby-, sports- and working place. With rearraning the bedroom I have a vacant shelf now which I put up in the east area. Plus I brought my spare table upstairs to use it as a desk.
Last Saturday I tidied up the flowerbeds, bought and planted some new blooming plants and mowed the lawn.
I have an appointment at the regional gym here in Zwiesel this afternoon. I hope that a membership won't be too expensive. It doesn't have a pool and it has very poor opening hours at the weekends, but I think that I could need some more excercise.
And I made an appointment for my biennial mammogram.
