Spent the last two nights in my tent in my backyard. Temps are awful and right now it's snowing.
Tested both of my hollowfibre-sleeping-bags. Both are warm enough with temps around freezing but the newer one is really a bit on the short side. I don't know what the company is thinking when they write in their description that it can be used by persons up to the height of 175cm (5'8''). I'm 169cm (5'5'') and it is barely long enough for my height. I bought it because it means less weight to carry with a smaller sleeping bag. I save at least 300g with it.
I portioned the cereals and the dried fruits + nuts. Made my own trail-mix as the normal mixes do all contain almonds and a lot of raisins. I'm allergic to almonds and I'm not very fond of raisins. Though, my mix contains pineapples, apples, pears, bananas, cranberries, berberies, hazelnuts (sugar-roasted + pure), cashew nuts (salted + pure) and I also mixed in snyders pretzels with cheese flavour. It's altogether 1.5kg. I made 12 packages of this mix and 15 packages รก 200g of cereals. I also bought Gummibears in those tiny packages that contain like 10 little bears. I think I will carry one for each day as a reward at the end of the day. I don't think that I will carry all of the cereal and trail-mix as there will be stores on the hike to fill up but better be prepared and have at least some of my favourite food with me.
I'm broke now as all the food and equipment was pretty expensive and buying the food for one month in advance is not good for my balance. At least there won't be that much expenses next month. Just transportations and the little for fill-up-food. I won't stay in any hostels, b+b, hotels or boothies but I might need one of those and ask for a hot shower. That would be nice to have a shower from time to time.
My ordered hiking pants arrived and to my surprise they fitted pretty good. I'll take a belt with me just in case I'll loose that much weight that the pants won't fit anymore. I'm counting on loosing a lot of weight. I always lost weight on my former hikes, though this time won't be an exception, especially since I'm on a hike that long.
It's simple math. I don't think that I will eat more than 2200kcal/day but I will need at least 300kcal/hour while hiking (more in rough and steep terrain). Though, if I hike like 8 hours/day it's 2400kcal alone for hiking plus approx. 1400kcal metabolic rate at rest/day. That's a minus of 1600kcal/day
I think I will loose at least a pound each day.
