Came back from Norway yesterday.
I had my first DNF in a race which means I gave up. The night before the race we slept in huge gym hall and we had to get out at 2.30am to get to the ferry which brought us to the swim start. I haven't slept a minute in that night. I was nervous and it was pretty loud with snoring etc. of those other athletes.
I had a good swim and a good bike part, but the run was hell and I couldn't go any further after 25k. Weather was rainy and windy while swimming and the first part of the bike. Due to very cold water we had to swim in another part of the fjord where temps were a bit higher, which meant that we had to cycle additional 20km. The swim was also longer than 3.8km as well. I guess it was around 4.3 or 4.5 km. The bike was 200km and on the last part of the bike sun came out. So it got pretty warm on the run. As you know, not my favourite conditions to run. I made it to the 25km mark and gave up before the last hill climb.
I was 2nd female out of the swim and under the top ten female in the bike part, which already had 2 third of the altitude which we had to climb that day. Not the worst, I guess. But after the bike I wasn't able to get any more food or drink into my stomach. I was near vomitting all the time. So, my problem was too less energy intake for the last strenous 17km. It's disappointing but it is like it is and as I never raced a long distance triathlon before this is a good result and a very good experience for maybe future races.
After the race we drove to our accomodation and had a very nice rest week with nearly nothing but eat, sleep, talking, going for walks and reading. One day we visited Bergen. It's a nice little city but it nearly overwhelmed us with all those tourist crouds all of sudden, as we came out of the nowhere of a solitary hut in the norwegian wilderness.
Time flew and we drove back to the airport, stayed at the hotel for the last night and landed back in Munich yesterday at noon.
Went for a little run yesterday and to the gym for swimming and running today. As it was a regional holidy here in Bavaria today, I was able to sleep in. I'm very thankful for this additional day off work.
I'm not looking forward to work at all.
Btw. I had a 4% raise of my salary. Good.
Norway is a very expensive country to live. Groceries are way more expensive than here in Germany. I also don't look forward to my credit card invoice.
I have one race left this season. A middle distance race in Walchsee in Austria on the 4th of September. Just 3 weeks left.
