before you are ready to start you have to go through numerous papers of information
And the following example just states some generals. There's also the maps of transition areas, the maps of the routes and the reglement and ... etc. (and I didn't correct all their english... mine isn't that good as well)
interesting stuff - huh?
as an example the next race...
Cologne Triathlon Weekend: Entry confirmation
Please present at race number issue desk!
Congratulations - youre entered for Cologne Triathlon Weekend 2010! Consult the event schedule below to determine the start time corresponding to your race number. Apart from confirming your entry, this document aims to provide you with the most important details of the event. Please read this document carefully! If you have more questions visit our website (www.colognetriathlonweekend.de) or get in touch by e-mail ([email protected]) or phone us on 0049 221-xxx.
How to get here:
By car to the start and finish areas:
Fhlinger See (Lake Fhlinger)
Autobahn A1, exit at Kln Niehl/Fhlingen, follow Industriestrae (signs for Fhlingen/Worringen). After approx. 2 km turn left (signs for Fhlingen/Worringen). After approx. 700 m (regatta course crossing NB: P5 to your right) turn left at the traffic lights onto Neusser Landstrae (B9), signs for Zentrum (Centre).
After 1.4 km turn left onto Oranjehofstrae, after 400 m enter car park P2.
The Oranjehofstrae/P2 is not accessible between 6.30 am and 6 pm on Sunday (previously parked vehicles may also not exit the car park). During this time, please use car parks P3 to P5. A shuttle bus connects P4 and P5 with P3. The regatta tower is approx. 1 km from this point.
Heumarkt / Kln City:
The shuttle bus connects Fhlinger See with the finish area Heumarkt/Kln City and the second transition area.
The address of this finish area is: Heumarkt, 50667 Kln
Public transport (KVB: Klner Verkehrs-Betriebe) to Fhlinger See:
Fhlinger See is accessible using the KVB public transportation network from all over Cologne at almost all times of the day and night, including 4 am or 5 am in the morning. Journey time approx. 30 to 40 minutes from the city centre with 1 or 2 changes.
Visit www.kvb-koeln.de for an interactive travel planner. As your destination enter Fhlinger See: Seeberg. This stop is adjacent to P3 and is also the stop for the shuttle bus. Signs direct you to the start/finish area.
Traffic announcement:
The following motorway sections are closed between Saturday, 4September 2 pm, and Sunday, 5t September 5 pm due to construction work:
A3 In the direction of Frankfurt between Kreuz Leverkusen and the Kln-Dellbrck junction
A3 In the direction of Oberhausen between the Heumar intersection and the Leverkusen junction
A59 between the Porz and Heumar intersections
Parking:
Fhlinger See
Car park P2 may be used by athletes and spectators from Thursday to Monday provided there are free spaces (capacity approx. 800 spaces). P2 is approx. 10 minutes on foot (350m) from the start/finish area and can only be reached by car on Saturday and Sunday via Oranjehofstrae. P2 is not accessible between 6.30 am and 6 pm on Sunday (no entry or exit). On presentation of this confirmation, parking is free on the weekend of the event, although a fee of 2.50 per day applies to days leading up to the event.
Attention: Remove bicycles from vehicle roofs before parking, low car park roof (1.80m)! Drivers of camper vans etc., please follow stewards instructions!
As an alternative, especially for Cologne226 half and CologneOlympic participants on Sunday, we recommend car parks P4/P5 - directly behind the Merianstrasse bridge over Fhlinger See. From here (bus stop opposite P5) take the free shuttle bus to P2 on Saturday and to P3 on Sunday. After the cycle course reopens at approx. 5 pm, the shuttle bus continues on to P2 and from there onwards to the city. Shuttle bus stops are signposted. For more details, see the shuttle bus area on our home page.
Routes to the start/finish area are signposted.
The footpath from P4/P5 along the regatta course/running course to the start area is approx. 1.4 km long, is paved, and provides an excellent alternative to the shuttle bus, especially for Cologne226 half participants.
The footpath from P3 (shuttle bus stop: Asternweg/Seeberg) is approx. 900m long.
Heumarkt / Kln City:
Cars can be parked in one of the underground car parks in Cologne city centre. The closest car park is near Heumarkt. The multi-story car park near the Rheinauhafen is also nearby. If possible please park in the Schokoladenmuseum area. Ample space is available there (fees apply!).
Shuttle bus:
The shuttle bus service operated by our partner RVK (Cologne regional transport) is available free to athletes and spectators for transfers between the car parks and the start/finish area. We have liaised with our partner RVK to further optimise the shuttle bus concept, aiming to provide athletes with the best possible service.
Shuttle bus between P5 and P2 (Saturday), & P5 and P3 (Sunday)
On Saturday, the shuttle bus service between P5 (bus stop on the opposite side of the road from P5) and P2 operates from 10 am to approx. 8 pm.
On Sunday the shuttle bus service between P5 and P3 (bus stop: Chrysanthemenweg/Seeberg) operates from 8 am to approx. 12 am (midnight). After the cycle course reopens at approx. 5 pm, the bus will continue on to P2 until approx. 12 am (midnight). The bus then continues from P2 directly to the city and not back to P5!
Sunday shuttle:
Early-Morning Shuttle for Cologne226 participants
A shuttle bus service for participants between the race hotel (Maritim Hotel) and Fhlinger See will be available on Sunday, 5September at 5 am. Prior registration is required in order to use this shuttle service, as we need to determine how many buses to provide.
If you would like to use the shuttle service send an e-mail to [email protected] to sign up! We cannot guarantee a shuttle bus space to anyone who hasn't signed up for it! You may, of course, bring an accompanying person (Prior registration also required!)
Shuttle from Maritim Hotel / Heumarkt to Fhlinger See (recommended for Cologne226 half participants)
Buses run every 10 minutes between the Maritim Hotel/Heumarkt and Fhlinger See on Sunday morning (5September) from 8.25 am. Journey time approx. 30 minutes. Walking time from P3 to the transition area approx. 10 minutes. The shuttle bus service is free for athletes, accompanying persons and spectators (no prior registration required!)
Shuttle bus between P3 and Maritim Hotel / Heumarkt (finish area Cologne226 half/Cologne226/ CologneOlympic)
Buses run every 10 minutes between P3 and Heumarkt (bus stop opposite Maritim Hotel near the Handwerkskammer) between 8 am (first exit P3 bus stop: Chrysanthemenweg/Seeberg) and 10 pm, every 20 minutes between 10 pm and 11.30 pm (last exit Heumarkt). Journey time approx. 30 minutes. NEW: After the cycle course reopens at approx. 6 pm, the shuttle bus continues on to P2, and from there directly to the city, not back to P5!
Bus stops travelling into the city: P3 (Chrysanthemenweg/Seeberg), P5 (Fhlinger See), from approx. 6 pm: also from P2 and Heumarkt.
Bus stops travelling towards Fhlinger See: Heumarkt (bus stop opposite Maritim Hotel near the Handwerkskammer), P5, P3 (Chrysanthemenweg/Seeberg) and (from approx. 6 pm) P2
HOTSPOT for spectators: The layout of the route in the Heumarkt/Deutzer Brcke area offers the perfect hotspot for spectators. This year the turning point of the cycling stage is on the Rheinuferstrasse, where a spectator stand has been built and a commentator will report on the progress of the race. The second transition area, the turning point of the running stage and the finish are in close proximity to the stand.

Kit bag info for the Cologne226, Cologne226 half and CologneOlympic
While collecting your entry documentation youll also receive three bags (among other things)!
Green bag / blue bag for Cologne226
In the green kit bag (also known as the RVK bag) youll find all your entry documentation and everything else you need from us in this competition (including the other two bags). The green bag is also your dry bag. Anything you need after the competition when you reach the finish (dry, warm clothes, shower gel, towel...) goes in here.
You can hand in the bag at the truck in the transition area up until the race starts.
We'll bring the bag to the finish for you!
Transition bags The white bags: Your competition kit goes in the white bags. You will receive a bag with a red printed logo and a bag with a blue printed logo.
The white-blue bag:
You can pack your cycling equipment in the white bag with the blue logo (also known as the swim-to-bike bag) and deposit it near your bike in the 1st transition area. When you finish the swim stage and reach your bike in the 1st transition area please take your cycling equipment out of the bag (or take the equipment deposited near your bike) and pack your wetsuit and other swimming equipment in the blue bag. We will bring the swim-to-bike bag with your swimming kit to the finish for you. Please make sure all your swimming equipment is in the bag. It is much harder to give equipment back to its rightful owner if it's lying around haphazardly. We will collect the bags for you and bring them to the finishing area, where you can collect them after the competition.
The white-red bag:
The white-red bag (or bike-to-run bag) will be waiting for you in the 2nd transition area. Your running kit and anything you need after the cycling stage goes in here!
Please hand in the bike-to-run bag for the Cologne226 at the 1st transition area by 9 pm on Saturday evening! Alternatively you can also deposit the bag in the 2nd transition area (e.g. if you want to attend the Pasta Party on Friday evening, or Saturday between midday 8 pm). 226ers arriving on Sunday morning can hand in their bike-to-run bag in the 1st transition area until 6.30 am.
Participants in the 226 half can hand in their bike-to-run bag in the 2nd transition area on Sunday from 8 am or in the 1st transition area by midday.
CologneOlympic participants can also deposit their bags in the 2nd transition area on Sunday from 8 am or in the 1st transition area by 3 pm latest on Sunday.
Cologne Triathlon Weekend race info 4-5 September 2010
+++ Before the triathlon +++
* New and amended entries are permitted on race weekend! Despite another new record number of entries, we guarantee a starting place to anyone interested, over any distance!
* If you have not yet paid your entry fee, please immediately transfer the appropriate amount and present the paying-in slip/receipt to the race numbers issue desk, or simply pay the fee in cash on arrival.
* If you do not possess a valid permit and have not booked a day pass in advance (valid only for Cologne226 half, CologneOlympic and Cologne226), please also bring 15,- to cover this.
* Everyone claiming to have a valid permit must show it at the race number distribution desk!
* Please wear your timing band (ChampionChip) on your ankle.
* On entering the transition area, please affix your self-adhesive race numbers to your bicycle and helmet and present these to the marshals for inspection. Your race numbers should also be shown at check-in. The remaining number stickers are for your kit bags.
* Upper arm and calf race number marking is obligatory for Cologne226, Cologne226 half and CologneOlympic contestants. Marking will take place in the transition area. CologneSmart contestants will NOT be marked!
* Please attach race numbers with an elastic band (naturally, relay race numbers may also be attached with safety pins, you will receive two race numbers). On the swim stage, they may not be attached under the neoprene suit. On the cycling stage they must be worn on the back, on the running stage, on the front.
* CologneSmart: All possessions must be deposited with the cycle in the transition area.
* When receiving their race documentation Firefighter226 contestants must show their identification cards or an official statement concerning their work for the fire department in order to qualify for the Firefighter226!
+++ Swim stage +++
* ALL contestants (except the CologneKids) access the swim course via the landing stage/jetty behind the Regatta tower. To prevent injury please enter the water from the JETTY, NOT from the banks!!!
* Smart distance = 700m (1st buoy), CologneOlympic distance = 1500m, Cologne226 half distance = 1900m (2nd buoy just ahead of the bridge), Cologne226 distance = 3.8km (3rd buoy, after the bridge), CologneQuad distance = 5000m (join Cologne226 to 3rd buoy, back to the starting line, continue to 600m buoy).
* Referees will be monitoring the turning point. Taking short cuts in the swim stage will result in disqualification.
* The swim cap issued by the organisers must be worn.
* Should the water temperature significantly exceed 23.9C, the organisers reserve the right to prohibit the wearing of neoprene suits.
+++ Cycling stage +++
* Attention! Dense local traffic in Rheinkassel! Tight bends and narrow sections in Tenhoven and approaching the Industriestrasse! Please strictly observe warnings and advice from marshals! Flags will signal dangerous areas. Please slow down and do not try to overtake!
* Attention! Accident black spot! When leaving the transition area the Cologne226 half and CologneOlympic contestants must join other athletes already in the area. To cover this, we have created a de-escalation zone to organise the athletes. Please be careful in this area!
* Distances:
- Smart distance: Two laps of the out and back course (12 km each)
- Cologne226 distance: City entrance followed by three laps of the long circuit
- Cologne226 half distance: City entrance, one full lap of the long circuit, one lap up to the turning point
- CologneOlympic distance: City entrance, one lap up to turning point
* You must wear a helmet!! Your helmet must be closed for as long as you hold the bike in your hand.
* You participate entirely at your own risk. Road traffic regulations apply: you must ride on the right! The course will be closed to traffic, but vehicles e.g. KVB buses may still be using the roads. Drafting is strictly prohibited for all riders! Athletes who are warned receive time penalties of 2 minutes (Smart, penalty box at Fhlinger See), 4 minutes (Cologne226 half and CologneOlympic) and 6 minutes (Cologne226). In the interests of all concerned, please ride in a courteous and fair manner, leave plenty of overtaking distance ahead and to the side of you, overtake quickly, and to the left. The penalty box for Cologne226, Cologne226 half and CologneOlympic is in the 2nd transition area (cologne city), after handing in the bike. Possible penalty time must be served AFTER the cycling stage during the transition to the running stage.
* There are two aid stations. One is located behind the Fhlinger See exit and the other opposite, when passing the Fhlinger See. Please throw empty drinks bottles into the containers provided. After the turning point in the city there is a third aid station for drinks.
* Aid stations feature (in the following order): Water, iso, cola, bars, bananas, water
* On Sunday the cycling route is closed off from 7 am to 5 pm in the North, to 7 pm in the South (CologneOlympic). If you are still on the race route after the aforementioned time you may finish the race, but must follow road traffic regulations like a normal cyclist.
+++ Running stage +++
* Smart distance: One lap of the lake and then to the finish. CologneOlympic distance: One lap of the 10/10.5 km course along the Rhine. Cologne226 half distance: Two laps of the 10/10.5 km course. Cologne226 distance: Four laps of the 10/10.5 km course.
* Each of the different distances has specially marked turning points!

* Handovers take place in the transition area with the handing over of the ChampionChip; the swimmer has no number; the cyclist and runner each have a race number.
* At handovers, please stay in your place at the cycle rack; warm-up only outside the transition area.
* Collective finishing is both permitted and desired! There are no restrictions for the CologneSmart distance at Fhlinger See. For CologneOlympic, Cologne226 half and Cologne226 you may use the restricted area (signposted Relay/Meeting point) approx. 100 to 200 m before the finish
+++ After the Triathlon+++
ChampionChips may be returned to the Regatta tower until 9 pm on Saturday, 4 September or to the Athletsgarden-Schiff until midnight on Sunday evening, 5 September.
In case of doping tests, every contestant must be able to show a licence (e.g. DTU pass) in the finishing area or supply a license within 60 minutes.
Sub-series athletes who succeed in beating their allotted time and thus win back their entry fee are requested to submit an (informal) invoice to Jeschke & Friends Veranstaltungsservice, Rubensstrasse 5, 50999 Kln, stating the time achieved and your registration number!
The very best of luck and enjoy the race!
